Throwback Thursday: Do You Want to Build a…Highway?

Present employee Bill and past employee Angelica wowed all of us with their civil engineering parody entry in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) nationwide music video contest where they brought home an Honorable Mention.  Good Memories. . .

Everyone at Rhea is proud as can be that our own Angelica Perez De la Rosa’s music parody video won an Honorable Mention in a nationwide music video contest sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).  Angelica’s video was one of four winning an Honorable Mention among a field of 30 entries.

Angelica rewrote the words to the song “Do you want to build a snowman?” from Disney’s mega-hit FROZEN and created “Do you want to build a highway?” The video was intended to capture what it’s like to be a newly-minted Civil Engineer.

And Angelica (with help from our own Bill Johnson) both acted and sang in the video.

Since submitting the video, we’ve shared it with younger kids we know and have found that it really strikes a chord with grade school children (especially girls who seem to ADORE all things FROZEN).   Maybe Angelica’s little video will inspire a whole new generation of kids to to consider a career in Engineering (or any STEM field).

Consider this a Rhea outreach program to get more young children as passionate about Civil Engineering as we all are.  So feel free to pass this video along to any grade-school FROZEN fan in your life.  People at the office who have shared it with their own kids,  have told us that their kids now sing the alternative Engineering-inspired lyrics instead (which we think is a VERY good thing).

Watch their video here and prepare to sing your heart out…
