Putting Employee Wellness First

Rhea recently re-vamped our longstanding employee wellness initiative: a casual competition to encourage physical activity. Participants record the minutes they spend being active on our internal Rhea Wellness website (or, for users of Fitbit and Strava, their minutes are automatically added), with prizes awarded to the team members with the most minutes earned.

Our staff range from fitness newbies to dedicated bikers, hikers, boxers, and gym rats, so we made a few modifications to ensure that we meet every participant wherever they are on their fitness journey.

Competitors are divided into three groups: Beginner, Intermediate, and Elite. Each group has its own champions, with the highest scoring man and woman in each category earning a prize.

Every workout, regardless of its intensity, counts toward an employee’s total minutes. After all, everyone has different abilities and limitations, and we want all of them to enjoy being active in whatever ways are the most fun, fulfilling, and beneficial for them. So, whether their idea of a great workout is high-intensity cardio or a long walk with the grandkids, everyone has a chance to win.

And even those of us without a competitive streak are rewarded just for participating. The below photos were taken at our annual Wellness Picnic, where participating employees were treated to lunch, games, and prizes.

Congratulations to this season’s wellness champions!

  • In the Beginner Division: Marsha Morgenstern and Bill Johnson

  • In the Intermediate Division: Marcy Johnson and Mark Scappe

  • In the Elite Division: Lynn Tomlinson and Kevin Blasko
