Petroleum, Oil, + Lubricant Sites Remediation Operations + Maintenance
Rhea was contracted by the Department of Navy, Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Mid-Atlantic to perform operations and maintenance (O&M) of multiple types of remediation systems aboard MCB Camp Lejeune. Rhea currently performs this work as part of a Joint Venture with Davenport World. The types remediation systems in place to treat these areas of contamination that have been operated by Rhea include: air sparge (AS), soil-vapor extraction (SVE), pump-and-treat (P&T), dual-phase extraction (DPE), sub-slab depressurization, vapor intrusion mitigation (VIM), biopulse, biosparge, and aggressive fluid vapor recovery (AFVR). Rhea is tasked with reducing contamination at various sites to below applicable cleanup standards by maintaining at least 85 percent operation of the O&M systems.
Since taking over the systems O&M in June 2009, Rhea has made major changes to most of the systems’ operation. These changes were made in order to prevent frequent system shutdowns and to remediate the contaminated areas, as well as to save the Government money by removing unnecessary, or costly equipment. Rhea currently maintains 9 active remediation systems, and 3 systems in pre-closure, aboard MCB Camp Lejeune. In addition to performing O&M, Rhea also provides design services, design reviews, optimizations, and decommissioning of sites once they have been remediated.
During Rhea’s term as O&M contractor, Rhea has closed two sites, moved three sites into pre-closure monitoring, and performed multiple, optimizations that both saved the Government money and increased overall treatment efficiencies. Using our extensive knowledge of O&M, Rhea has provided design input to the Government at no cost so that systems and be properly designed to remediate POL sites.
