Rhea provided unexploded ordnance safety awareness training and oversight during a project to repair deteriorated stormwater infrastructure at a military installation known to have sub-surface unexploded ordnance.
Unexploded Ordnance Training and Monitoring During Stormwater Pipeline Repair
A military installation in the District of Columbia was in the process of assessing and replacing deteriorated stormwater infrastructure. Since the site was known to contain unexploded ordnance (UXO) related to a historic weapons testing facility, Rhea was subcontracted to provide UXO support.
Rhea conducted UXO safety awareness training for the stormwater team that highlighted the typical types and ages of munitions likely to be found at the site and outlined the appropriate UXO clearance protocols.
Our UXO technician conducted a preliminary metal detector sweep of excavation areas and monitored the safe removal of soil. Having the UXO tech on site during excavation helped to keep the project on schedule and ensured that the stormwater infrastructure repairs could move forward without further involving the Base Explosive Ordnance Division.
