Congratulations Haleigh: Our two-time Rhea scholarship winner!
Congratulations to Haleigh McCalla, the winner of Rhea’s scholarship for the second year running!
Each year, the college-bound children and stepchildren of Rhea staff can earn a $1,000 scholarship by submitting a brief essay on that year’s theme. The winning essay wins an additional $500 prize.
For the second consecutive year, the top prize is going to Haleigh McCalla, daughter of VP Brad McCalla. In her first year at the University of Mount Union, Haleigh earned high grades while also pitching for the Raiders’ softball team.
Last year, Haleigh’s essay drew from her own experiences living near the site of the East Palestine chemical spill to argue for a pragmatic balance between environmental protections and economic development.
The 2024 prompt asked, “How does the Supreme Court Sackett Decision of May 25, 2023 impact our requirements for delineating and managing wetlands? Has this decision changed the way wetlands are regulated in Pennsylvania?“
Once again, Haleigh’s essay takes a thoughtful, measured perspective and reflects a solid understanding of the Sackett case and how its impacts are offset by strong waterways protections in states like Pennsylvania.
