Public School Infrastructure Improvements

Rhea was tasked with the design and inspection of various reconstruction projects at the Brookline, Banksville, King, and Lincoln Schools, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The project activities consisted of parking lot reconstruction and the replacement of concrete sidewalks, ramps, and curbs.

The project at Brookline Pre K-8 School involved the demolition and construction of a 50-foot linear retaining wall, replacement of 250 square yards of concrete sidewalks, and 40 linear feet of concrete curbs.

At Banksville Pre K-5 School involved the milling of 3,500 square yards of bituminous pavement, placing bituminous leveling course, asphalt fabric, and 2 inches of bituminous wearing course.

300 square yards of concrete sidewalks and a ramp were replaced at King K-8 School.

The project at Lincoln PreK-5 School required replacement of 340 square yards of concrete sidewalks and the reconstruction of 460 linear feet of concrete stairs, construction of a concrete island, and replacement of the aluminum handrails.

By performing topographical surveys and subsurface investigations, Rhea was able to determine the best designs for the replacement of the broken concrete sidewalks, curbs, concrete stairs, concrete ramps, and the reconstruction of bituminous pavement. Rhea’s contributions allowed for a successful collaboration of the Pittsburgh Public School District interests. Our recommendation in design and construction of best management practices (BMPs) also improved the overall drainage of the various sites.
