Rhea is providing surveying, environmental, geotechnical, and archaeological support for a major road connector project in Moon, Pennsylvania.
Road Connectors in a High Traffic Area
Two sections of road connector are planned to relieve traffic and encourage commercial development in a busy section of Moon Township, Pennsylvania. Rhea has offered, and continues to offer, support throughout the planning and preparation of these roadways. These surveys have included deed surveys, topographic surveys, environmental site assessments, wetland and stream studies, and archaeological investigations. All environmental and cultural findings were integrated into a geodatabase for use in project planning, permitting, and regulatory submittals.
Rhea’s site characterizations needed to account for environmental restrictions, particularly wetlands and stream locations. Our team evaluated and mapped these features to ensure that the final road alignment could avoid or otherwise account for them. Rhea’s surveyors were also tasked with ground-truthing LiDAR-generated topographic maps to ensure absolute precision, as the site slopes were a strong determinant of the final road placement.
Regulations also required that archaeological and historical surveys be conducted at the project areas, which intersected with known historic sites. Rhea’s cultural resource management team conducted a Phase I archaeological survey, along with extensive archival research and artifact analysis, to determine the extent of the sites and make recommendations regarding their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. This work, and our team’s correspondence with the state historic preservation office, ensured that the project could progress smoothly and in compliance with all local, state, and federal preservation legislation.
